The ‘Chanel of faux flowers’ Abigail Ahern shows you how to create the perfect Christmas wreath with her winter garden inspired design.

We are pretty obsessed with wreaths here at Abigail Ahern, me more than anyone as I spent a number of years living in the States where they are totally into them and that has so rubbed off on me.

I have them year round in my pad changing it up with the seasons. In winter I add small seasonal embellishments like fur cones, maybe some berries and in spring I swap those out for mimosa and blossom.

Abigail’s Winter Garden Wreath

There are so many ways you can go with wreaths. You can wire materials to a metal base, apply materials to a foam base or use boughs and branches as the base of your frame. We’ve strayed from convention and instead of using pine as our base have embraced autumnal meadow grasses, which look wild and foraged – a key to this look.

If you haven’t done this sort of thing before use a single wire frame – it’s the easiest of the lot. Wrap some florist wire (preferably green) around the stems you are using, lay a group of stems on the wire, wrap tightly to the frame and add another bundle. Make sure to overlap the previous one and keep going until you are done.

In the winter months I then layer with fairly lights and hang over mantles, doors, walls, anywhere and everywhere (I told you I was obsessed)!
