Niwaki

Niwaki is a British-Japanese garden-and-kitchen brand producing beautifully made carbon-steel tools, pruners and whetstones, alongside a curated range of Japanese household pieces. The tools are forged in Japan by long-established workshops and finished to a standard that puts them in the same conversation as chef-grade knives.

Niwaki curates Japanese-made garden and kitchen tools for the European market, secateurs, tripod ladders, shears, whetstones and brooms, all sourced directly from long-established Japanese workshops. The brand's founder, Jake Hobson, is a working topiary specialist.

The tools are forged in Japan, primarily in Sanjo (traditional centre for blade-making) and Sakai, and finished by workshops with generations of experience in each technique. Niwaki publishes supplier information openly on every product page.

Carbon-steel garden tools, kept sharpened and lightly oiled, will comfortably outlast the gardener using them. The tripod ladders are guaranteed for structural failure rather than cosmetic ageing, and many of the pruning tools come with free sharpening for life.

Carbon steel rusts if left wet, so wiping the blade dry after use and applying a light camellia oil occasionally keeps the tools in peak condition. A whetstone sharpen every few months keeps the edge sharp without professional servicing.
