Garden Dining Chairs & Benches

Outdoor benches turn a garden, terrace or covered porch into proper additional seating – a place to read with a coffee, a perch for morning light, an extra row at a summer dinner. Our collection covers teak, powder-coated steel and woven outdoor benches in lengths to seat two, three or four, built for British weather rather than Mediterranean.

Backless benches read more sculptural and slot easily under garden tables; backed benches are more comfortable for longer sittings (over 30 minutes). For a dining bench at an outdoor table, backless usually works better; for a relaxed reading spot in the garden, a back is the more practical choice.

FSC-certified teak weathers to a silver patina without losing structural integrity and can be left out year-round. Powder-coated steel and cast aluminium also handle British weather well. Avoid untreated softwoods, which rot within a few seasons unless brought indoors over winter.

A 120cm bench seats two adults comfortably; 150cm seats three; 180cm seats three with arm room or four at a squeeze. As a rule of thumb, allow 60cm of bench length per adult – the same allowance as for indoor dining.

Teak yes, with no covering needed beyond pollen and bird-dropping clean-up in spring. Powder-coated metal benefits from a breathable cover; sealed plastic covers trap moisture against the metal and accelerate corrosion at joint points. Untreated timber should always come into a shed or garage over winter to prevent rot.
