    Teak, powder-coated aluminium and composite stone are the most durable materials for outdoor coffee tables, all of which cope with British weather when cared for properly. Teak weathers to a silver-grey over time unless oiled annually. Avoid untreated softwoods and unsealed natural stone.

    Cover or store garden coffee tables during very cold or wet weather to extend their lifespan. Waterproof covers that allow airflow are the practical middle ground, preventing moisture build-up that encourages mould. Bring composite stone tables indoors if temperatures drop well below freezing.

    Garden coffee tables can work indoors in orangeries, conservatories and transitional spaces, where their weather-resistant materials remain practical. Teak and aluminium work well against indoor flooring, though protect polished floors with felt feet. Avoid placing outdoor-grade cushions directly on indoor upholstery.

    Choose a garden coffee table proportional to your outdoor sofa or lounge setting, typically two-thirds the length of the seating and at similar height to the seat cushions. Leave 30–45cm of space between the sofa edge and the table for comfortable access. Round tables suit smaller patios.
