Garden Stools

Outdoor stools work harder than their height suggests, serving as extra perching seats around a garden table, a footrest beside a lounger, or a side table holding a drink and a candle. Our collection pulls together teak stools in warm oiled finishes, powder-coated aluminium designs, and woven outdoor-rated fabric seats, built for UK weather.

Outdoor stools with flat, smooth tops double easily as side tables, holding a drink, a book or a candle beside a lounger. The dual-purpose approach is common in Scandinavian outdoor design, where a single low stool replaces a dedicated stool plus a side table. Look for stools rated to 120kg or more to give confidence for both roles.

Solid teak, powder-coated aluminium and synthetic rattan stools are designed to sit outside year-round with no storage required. Upholstered cushion tops should be stored inside over winter, or the whole stool can go under cover if a waterproof storage box is available. The frame itself copes fine with British weather.

Outdoor dining tables typically sit at 72 to 75cm, pairing with 45 to 48cm seat-height stools, the same as indoor dining. Bar-height outdoor counters at 105cm call for 75 to 80cm stools, matching indoor bar stool proportions. Measure the table before ordering so the pairing lands right.

A stable outdoor stool has either four feet with good ground clearance for levelling, or a heavier base designed to sit on lawn or gravel. Three-legged stools work well on uneven surfaces because they self-level, but are less stable if overweighted to one side. Choose four-legged designs for patios, three-legged for grass.
