    A 200ml refill typically scents a room for two to three months, while a 500ml bottle stretches to four or five months. Placement matters as much as volume: diffusers in draughty hallways evaporate faster, while quieter rooms like a bedroom or study hold their fragrance for longer without needing a top-up.

    Most ceramic or glass vessels accept any reed diffuser oil, provided the opening fits the reeds you're using. Giving the vessel a rinse with warm water and a drop of washing-up liquid between scents keeps the new fragrance clean and prevents the previous oil from muddying the notes.

    Flipping reeds once a week refreshes the scent throw without shortening the life of the refill significantly. Overflipping releases fragrance too quickly and saturates the reeds, while never flipping leaves the scent weakening against the drying reeds. Once weekly, at a consistent time like a Sunday tidy-up, tends to be the sweet spot.

    Hallways, bathrooms and entrance areas are where diffusers are felt most immediately, scenting a home as soon as guests step in. Quieter rooms like a study or reading corner also benefit from a slow, continuous fragrance, while kitchens are usually better served by a candle that can be switched on when the cooking settles.
