Villeroy & Boch has been making German porcelain and ceramics since 1748, one of the longest continuously operating tableware houses in Europe. The collections at Heal's span dinnerware, glassware and serveware, from the heritage Old Luxembourg and Mettlach patterns through to contemporary New Wave and Artesano ranges.

    The house has been producing porcelain and earthenware since 1748, and has a particular reputation for dinnerware sets that combine classical decoration with modern durability. The New Wave, Mettlach and Old Luxembourg ranges are among the most-specified collections in European homes.

    Production is split across a group of European manufactories, with the main porcelain works in Mettlach (Germany) and Luxembourg still in operation after more than two centuries. The house is one of very few tableware makers to own every stage of its supply chain.

    Most ranges are dishwasher, microwave and freezer safe; the gilt-edged and hand-decorated collections are hand-wash only. The specification is printed clearly on the base of each piece and repeated on every product page.

    The house's own Colour Concept range is built to mix with New Wave, and most of the neutral dinnerware layers comfortably with other porcelain brands of similar weight. A useful rule is to match the body (porcelain with porcelain) and vary the pattern, not the other way around.
