Pillows

A pillow choice affects sleep more than most people realise – the wrong fill or firmness contributes to neck pain, shoulder strain and disrupted nights. Our luxury pillow collection covers down, wool, latex and high-quality synthetic fills in soft, medium and firm tensions, sized for standard, king and super-king beds. Considered options for back, side and front sleepers.

Down (and feather-and-down blends) gives the softest, most luxurious feel and reshapes around the head – the traditional luxury choice. Wool offers excellent temperature regulation and lasts longer than down before flattening. Synthetic fills are easier to wash and suit households with allergies. Each is the right answer for different sleepers; the choice depends on preference and circumstances.

Not the mattress – the sleeper's neck and shoulder anatomy. Side sleepers need firmer, taller pillows to fill the gap between shoulder and neck. Back sleepers need medium-firm pillows that support the natural cervical curve. Front sleepers need the softest, lowest pillows to avoid neck strain. The wrong-firmness pillow on the right mattress still causes problems.

Every 2-3 years for synthetic pillows, every 5-7 years for quality down or wool pillows. Test by folding the pillow in half – if it stays folded rather than springing back, the fill has degraded and the support is gone. Even pillows with washable covers eventually accumulate body oils and dust mites that no wash fully removes.

Two pillows per sleeper for normal use – one for sleeping, one as a buffer or reading prop. King and super-king beds usually take four pillows total in standard sizes (50x75cm), or two pillows in king-size (50x90cm). Decorative cushions are extra; functional pillow count should match sleeper count rather than visual styling.
