    A typical arc floor lamp stands 180 to 220cm high with an arm reaching 150 to 180cm from the base, so the shade hangs roughly 20 to 30cm above sofa back-cushion height. Check your ceiling height: anything under 240cm risks the shade feeling crowded, and anything over 300cm leaves the lamp looking marooned.

    The physics of an arched floor lamp demand a weighty base, usually marble or cast metal, to counterbalance the outstretched arm.
