Modern LED table lamps usually run at 5 to 10 watts, producing 400 to 800 lumens, which sits comfortably between reading light and mood light. For bedside reading, aim for 500 lumens with a warm 2700K colour temperature; for a desk task lamp, 800 to 1000 lumens at 3000 to 4000K keeps work sharp without eye strain.

A bedside table lamp should sit with the bottom of the shade roughly level with your chin when sitting up in bed, so the bulb stays hidden from view.
