    A statement floor lamp has presence beyond its function, through scale, sculptural silhouette, unusual material choices or a recognisable designer name. It tends to anchor the corner of a room visually, even when switched off. The lamp becomes an intentional part of the room composition rather than background lighting.

    Corners and the ends of sofas are the classic positions, where the lamp completes a seating arrangement and acts as a visual full-stop. Next to an armchair with a side table is another natural spot. Avoid placing a statement piece where it competes with other oversized objects in the same sightline.
