Coffee Tables

Our coffee tables range from low-slung marble drums to cantilevered glass-topped frames and solid timber plinths. Each is proportioned around the sofa it'll sit in front of, chosen for the balance of surface area, visual weight and material tone, all the pieces that let the coffee table hold tea trays and magazines without visually crowding the room.

A coffee table is ideally two-thirds the length of the sofa it sits in front of, giving it visual presence without dwarfing the seating. Leave 40 to 45cm of clearance between the sofa front and the table edge, enough to walk past comfortably but close enough to reach a mug without leaning awkwardly forward.

Coffee tables work best at 38 to 45cm high, roughly level with or slightly below the sofa seat cushion. Heights above 45cm start to feel like a dining surface, while anything below 35cm reads as a stool and makes drinks harder to reach. Pair taller tables with higher sofas and lower tables with mid-century sectionals for a balanced line.

Rectangular tables suit long three- or four-seater sofas and provide the most surface area for trays and books. Round and oval tables soften a room's geometry and work especially well with L-shaped sofas or corner arrangements, eliminating sharp corners from high-traffic routes. Square tables suit two-seater layouts or paired sofas facing each other.

Matching coffee and side tables give a cohesive set look, but contrasting the two materials creates depth, so a marble coffee table paired with timber side tables tells a richer material story. Keep the heights related, within 10 to 15cm of each other, to preserve visual harmony across the whole seating arrangement.
