Indoor Wall Lights

Adjustable wall lights flex with the way a room is used – arm out for reading, arm tucked back for ambient glow, head angled where the light is needed. Our collection includes Anglepoise wall lights, Vitra and Flos articulated designs, and traditional swing-arm styles in matte chrome, brass, black and other timeless finishes, ideal for bedrooms, sitting rooms and reading corners.

Beside beds (where they double as reading and ambient lighting), beside armchairs and sofas in lieu of a floor lamp, and over a workspace. The articulating arm means the light position can shift as the room's use shifts – a feature fixed wall lights can't match. They're particularly useful in tighter bedrooms where a bedside table can't fit a lamp.

Beside a bed, mount at 1.1-1.3m from the floor so the light falls on the page when reading sitting up. Beside an armchair, mount at 1.4-1.5m to put the bottom of the shade at standing eye level when extended. Standardise the height across pairs in the same room for visual consistency.

Hardwired is the cleaner finish for permanent rooms. Plug-in (with a cable that runs down to a socket) is the practical choice in rented homes or where wiring isn't accessible. The trailing cable can be hidden behind a bedside table or framed with cable trunking, but it'll never be as clean as a hardwired connection.

Warm-white LED at 600-1,000 lumens (around 50-75W equivalent) gives enough light for sustained reading. Choose dimmable bulbs and pair with a dimmable wall switch or in-line dimmer so the same fitting can drop to ambient mode in the evening. Avoid bulbs with very narrow beams; reading lights work better with broader spread.
