Thomas Bentzen

Thomas Bentzen is a Danish designer whose work with Muuto includes the Under the Bell pendant, the Around coffee tables and a range of quietly detailed occasional pieces. His approach trims each piece to its essential structure, no applied decoration, no hidden detail, which is why his work has aged so steadily across Muuto's catalogue.

Bentzen's ongoing collaboration with Muuto has produced some of the Copenhagen house's most enduring designs, the Around tables, the Under the Bell pendant and the Couple lamp. His approach strips each piece to its essential structure without stylistic flourish.

Production runs through Muuto's established European manufacturing partners, with timber components typically in Eastern Europe and metal and upholstery in Scandinavia. Bentzen signs off prototypes directly from his Copenhagen studio.

Many of Bentzen's tables and lights were designed with compact Copenhagen apartments in mind, which is why they scale well in flats and smaller open-plan rooms. The Around coffee table is available in multiple diameters, including a small size suited to seating groups of two or three.

The minimalist detail and solid materials mean Bentzen's work doesn't depend on trend, a piece specified in 2015 still reads as current in 2026. The through-line in his work is that character comes from proportion rather than ornament.
