    Industrial pendant lights draw on factory, railway and workshop lighting, using bold metal shades, visible bulbs and utilitarian fittings rather than decorative detailing. Finishes tend towards brushed steel, aged brass and black powder coat. The look is designed to be practical as well as decorative.

    Over a kitchen island or dining table, industrial pendants typically hang so the base of the shade sits 75–90cm above the surface. This keeps the light close enough to be useful without obstructing sightlines. For a cluster of pendants, stagger the heights by 5–10cm for visual interest.

    Filament-style LED bulbs are the best match for exposed-bulb industrial pendants, mimicking the original Edison designs without the heat of traditional incandescents. Warm-white (2,700K) is the most forgiving colour temperature for living spaces. Larger globe bulbs read as more decorative than classic GLS shapes.
