Tea and Coffee

Our tea and coffee collection runs from hand-thrown stoneware mugs to polished French presses, stovetop espresso makers and timber-handled kettles. Each piece is chosen for how it fits into the morning rhythm: heatproof where it needs to be, dishwasher-safe where practical, and sized to the rituals of one or a household.

A cafetière, or French press, steeps ground coffee fully in hot water and produces a richer, more textured brew with some oils in the cup. A drip maker filters those oils out through paper, giving a cleaner, brighter finish. Choose the cafetière for depth and body, the drip for clarity and ease.

A two-person teapot typically holds 500 to 600ml, giving each drinker a large mug plus the top-up. A four-to-six person teapot holds a litre to 1.2 litres, which is the workhorse size for Sunday afternoons and larger households. Much above that and the tea cools before the last cup, so consider a warmer rather than a bigger pot.

Stoneware is heavier in the hand and holds heat longer, giving a robust, satisfying feel for everyday coffee and tea. Porcelain is thinner and lighter, refining the experience for fine teas and specialty coffees where the thinner rim influences the mouthfeel. Most households benefit from a small collection of each.

Most stoneware and porcelain mugs are fully dishwasher-safe, while cast-iron teapots and wooden-handled vessels should be hand-washed to preserve the seasoning and prevent the handle splitting. Check each piece's care notes, and when in doubt, hand-wash glazed items and machine-wash unglazed stoneware with confidence.
