    Warm, spiced or woody notes like clove, cedar and amber work in almost any scheme and feel seasonal without being heavy-handed. Fresher pine and eucalyptus scents are a modern alternative that still reads as Christmas. Avoid very sweet or sugary notes if the candle will burn for several hours at a time.

    Standard luxury candles in 200 to 300g sizes burn for 50 to 80 hours, while larger vessels can extend to 150 hours or more. Trimming the wick to around 5mm before each burn prevents excess smoke and black marks on the vessel. The first burn should be long enough to reach the edges of the wax.

    Diffusers give constant ambient scent without any supervision, making them practical for hallways and bathrooms where an unattended candle isn't advisable. Candles give stronger, more immediate fragrance on demand. Many homes use both in different rooms to cover the full day.
