    We generally consider pendants above 60cm in diameter or 80cm in drop to sit in the large category, though some sculptural pieces extend well beyond that. The scale needs to suit the room rather than an absolute size, so a 90cm pendant can feel oversized in a small kitchen but modest in a double-height stairwell. Always measure the full drop before ordering.

    Large pendants work best with ceilings above 2.7m, where the drop has room to read without crowding sightlines. For a 3m ceiling, a pendant hanging to around 2m above the floor (1m drop) usually reads balanced. Double-height spaces can accommodate drops of 2m or more comfortably.

    A single large pendant can provide meaningful ambient light across a medium-sized room, especially with a higher-output bulb and a diffusing shade. For larger rooms, combining the pendant with secondary wall or table lamps layers the lighting properly. Sole reliance on one ceiling fixture rarely flatters a room's furniture and materials.

    Heavier pendants need a ceiling rose fixed into a joist or a properly specified backing board, not just a plasterboard ceiling. The installation instructions specify the required support, and a qualified electrician should handle the fit. Chains and cables are rated for specific weights, listed on the product page.
