Globe Lighting

Globe lighting brings one of the purest forms in design – the sphere – down from the ceiling or up from a side table. Our collection features opal glass pendants, smoked glass wall lights and statement bulbs from Tom Dixon, Flos and Tala, suited to rooms that want softness without fuss.

The sphere has been a reference shape in lighting since the earliest gas globes of the 1890s, and it has returned in every major design movement since. That long history means a globe pendant rarely looks dated, even as styles around it change. The form also distributes light evenly in all directions, which is part of why it endures.

Opal glass diffuses the bulb into a soft, even glow, which flatters faces and food – the right choice over dining tables and in bedrooms. Clear glass keeps the bulb visible, turning it into part of the design, which suits bar carts, reading corners and entryways where the light is decorative as well as functional.

A 30-40cm diameter globe works above most 6-seater dining tables, hung so the base sits 75-85cm above the tabletop. Larger rooms can take a 50cm globe or a cluster of smaller spheres. Undersized fittings in large rooms are one of the most common mistakes in domestic lighting.

Oversized filament globes – the G125 and G200 shapes – put out between 350 and 600 lumens in their dimmable LED form, which is enough for ambient lighting but not for reading. Pair them with a floor lamp or wall light if the space needs task-level output. Alone, they set mood rather than illuminate a room.
