Wine Glasses

Our wine glasses cover the full evening, from wide-bowled reds that draw out tannins through to tulip-shaped whites that keep a chill. Hand-blown in lead-free crystal and contemporary glass, each stem is chosen for the way it sits in the hand and the way it performs on the table, supper after supper.

Red wine glasses have wider bowls that open the aromatics and soften tannins, while white wine glasses are narrower to preserve a chill and focus crisper, fruit-forward notes. A pair of each covers most households, and many keen home drinkers add a champagne flute or coupe as a third for celebrations.

Lead-free crystal is made with barium or zinc rather than lead oxide, producing a thinner, clearer stem that rings musically when tapped. Regular glass is more robust and handles the dishwasher well, suiting everyday use. Reserving crystal for considered dinners and glass for weeknights keeps both sets in working condition for longer.

Hand-washing in warm water with a drop of gentle detergent is the safest route, finishing with a microfibre cloth to avoid streaks. For dishwasher-safe stems, load rim-up in the top rack and skip the rinse-aid, as it can leave a faint residue that dulls the clarity over time.

Six red and six white glasses covers most dinner parties without leaving you rinsing mid-course, with four champagne flutes or coupes as the Celebration set. Keeping one or two heavier everyday glasses in the kitchen cupboard, separate from the entertaining set, protects the finer stems from midweek wear.
