A round coffee table works harder than its square equivalent in most living rooms, no corners to bump into, easier to walk around, and a softer visual anchor for a sofa and chair arrangement.     Match the diameter roughly to two-thirds of the length of the sofa in front of it. A 3-seater of 210cm suits a coffee table of 90-110cm diameter; a compact 2-seater suits 70-80cm. Leave 35-50cm between the table edge and the sofa for comfortable leg room.

    Often yes, the absence of corners means the table sits lighter in a tight space, and the single footprint works better than a rectangular equivalent in rooms where walkways matter. Square tables can feel heavier visually even when the footprint is identical.

    Standard height is 38-45cm, aligning with the seat cushion of most sofas. Lower tables (32-38cm) read more lounge-oriented and work alongside low-slung modernist sofas; taller tables (45-50cm) work well in period homes and with traditional sofa silhouettes.

    For occasional use, drinks, snacks, board games, a 100cm round table can easily seat four; the central space is more shared than on a rectangular equivalent. For larger groups a rectangle is still more efficient, but round geometry has real social advantages for four or fewer.
