    New Works is a Danish design company based in Copenhagen, founded in 2013 to create considered furniture, lighting and accessories in partnership with international designers. The brand is known for its restrained Scandinavian aesthetic and focus on natural materials. Its collaborators include Sabine Marcelis, Malene Birger and Philippe Malouin.

    New Works gravitates toward natural oak, walnut, marble, travertine and blackened steel, often combined within a single piece. The material palette is deliberately limited, which gives the collection visual coherence. Every product is finished to a consistently high standard.

    The Lantern pendant lights, Kizu table lamps and Tense dining table have become contemporary classics, suiting both modern and warmer Scandi homes. Smaller accessories such as Karakter bowls and sculptural candleholders layer easily into existing schemes. The range is particularly strong in lighting.

    New Works prioritises long-lifespan materials and European manufacturing, reducing environmental impact through durability and proximity rather than fast-fashion design cycles.       With the spread of COVID-19 across the world, self-isolation and social distancing have become the norm for the meantime. For many of us this is the first time we’ve needed to work from home on a long-term basis. It can be hard to get used to it, which is why we’ve compiled this useful guide to show you how to work from home. Get dressed There’s no dress code in a home office but before you sit down at your desk we recommend getting dressed. Not only does this get you ready to start the day, it also helps you stick to your normal routine. That isn’t to say you need to wear smart attire or your uniform. However, changing into something that isn’t your pyjamas will make you feel refreshed and capable. You can always revert back to your sweatpants or joggers on casual Friday. Stick to a routine With working from home comes the temptation to have a leisurely lie in before rolling out of bed and straight to your desk. Instead, try to establish a routine that works in your favour. Wake up in time to grab 30 minutes of exercise, make yourself some breakfast and catch up with the news. Whatever your morning activities, make the most of the extra couple of hours you have in the day. Keep moving Wondering how to work and stay fit? Well, during this nation-wide lockdown regular activity has been actively encouraged. At the time of writing this the guidelines allow us to leave home to exercise once a day. You should stay 2-metres away from others at all times. This means team sports are out of the question but lone activities like running, cycling and walking are ideal. Go earlier in the morning to avoid as little risk as possible. Stay in touch Up until recently you probably spent every day in the company of your team. To suddenly not see them every day will be strange. Whilst decreased productivity should be expected whilst settling into new routines, staying in touch means everyone is on the same page. Online tools like Skype, Zoom and Slack mean you can talk throughout the day and ensure the work flow. Similarly, try to keep to your regular meetings to retain as much normality as possible. Try not to get frustrated by your colleagues – you’ll soon settle into a routine. Finesse your workspace More important than anything is making sure you create a productive, comfortable workspace. In most workspaces we’re treated to ergonomically designed chairs, foot supports and sprawling desks. This is often not the case when you work from home. Unless you have the space and money to invest in new furniture then you may have to find a compromise. Imitate your office rather than trying to work from the sofa or your bed. This could involve permanently transforming the dining table into an office space. Or you could improvise and turn a nightstand into a desk. If you do decide to buy a dedicated office chair then opt for one that’s designed to support your back. If you live with flatmates, family members or a partner, work with them to create a plan that works for everyone. For example, if you need to work free from distractions then let them know.

So, in collaboration with Paper Collective and Anglepoise, we sent each of them a few gifts to personalise their workspaces. Discover how they styled their gifts and how they work from home below. Emma @apogee_interiors “Try and create a work-only space in the home. Be it a study, a small desk in a room or even an arm chair, this allows you to isolate work to one space. If you work from the same sofa you spend the evening watching TV from then there’s no definition. Do anything to try and define your work environment and your home life.” Marisa @oakappledecor “As I work from home a lot, over the years I’ve realised the impact my surroundings have on the way I work. For me, having a clean and tidy work space with practical yet beautiful storage is so important. Functional lighting is a must too. A visually pleasing space helps to keep you happy and mentally stimulated; No one wants to work in a messy and boring space do they?!” Melanie @melanielissackinteriors “Lighting is important in any situation, but particularly for productivity. On darker days, avoid working under harsh overhead lighting such as spotlights and glaring pendants by adding a task lamp. If you don’t have a desk lamp, borrow a bedside table light or a side light from your living space. An atmospheric lamp will make your workspace feel more cosy, comforting and inviting than working in a stark, bright room.” Ross & Ian @our1930sfixerupper “As we’re both working from home during the current UK lockdown, it's important for us that we have our own spaces to work quietly and take a business-as-usual approach to our working day. At the close of play, we put all our work gear back into storage and transform the dining room table back to what it should be so you don't feel like you are living at work 24/7!” Jess @thestayoverlife “Write out your to do list the day before. Write the list in chronological order and next to each item on the list write a timeframe and only spend that long on that task. It’s not a race to finish it but it's easier to focus on tasks when you know there are breaks coming.” Emma @1fiveone “My tip for working from home is to make whatever corner of your home you’re working from as comfortable as possible. Even if it’s by adding some new cushions or a throw. And lighting is really important, if you’re not by a window make sure you have a nice lamp, this will ensure it’s a more productive space to work from. If you de-clutter the space it will help you focus.” Jackie @jackie.hoyte “I find structure and routine essential when working from home and always take a break for lunch. But make sure you get a change of scenery and don’t eat at your desk. Creating a space that’s both practical and aesthetically pleasing is vital to me. I’m lucky that my desk is right next to a window so having a constant source of natural light makes a big difference.” Emma @the_old_posthouse "Set those boundaries. Video calls, especially when back to back, are so exhausting! I make sure I block time out in my diary for lunch, 1-2 hour slots for emails and non-working hours.
