Christmas Table Decorations

A considered Christmas tablescape turns the meal into the event it should be, and our luxury Christmas table decorations cover hand-blown bauble candleholders, brass and crystal napkin rings, hand-painted ceramic table pieces, candle centrepieces and garland accents. Each item is chosen to coordinate across years and seasons, not just one Christmas. Premium packaging makes them gift-worthy too.

Start with the table linen (or a runner on a bare timber table), then layer chargers under the dinner plates. Add candlesticks of varying heights down the centre, interspersed with small ornamental pieces, foliage clippings or dried florals. Napkin rings, name-place cards and subtle scatter details complete the setting.

Restrained palettes of two or three tones look more considered than mixing every Christmas colour. Gold with cream and deep green; silver with white and pale blue; burgundy with warm brass all work well. The table decorations should complement the existing room tones rather than imposing a jarring theme.

Quality table decorations in durable materials (brass, crystal, hand-thrown ceramic) last for decades of Christmases with careful storage between seasons. Wrapping in tissue inside a compartmentalised box protects fragile pieces. Building a collection gradually over several years leads to the richest tablescapes.

Leave enough clear space between decorations for serving plates, glasses and diners' arms; the table should read as abundant, not crowded. A rule of thumb is to cover roughly a third of the available surface with decoration. Less decoration on smaller tables reads better than crowding them with miniature versions.
