Fine Little Day

Fine Little Day is a Swedish design house founded by Elisabeth Dunker, producing textiles, ceramics, wall art and illustrated prints from a Gothenburg studio. The collection carries a signature illustrative style built on nature, flora and children's-book-like imagery, translated across tea towels, cushions, posters and tableware.

    Fine Little Day is a Swedish brand based in Gothenburg, founded by designer and blogger Elisabeth Dunker. The studio handles design and product development in-house, with production spread across European textile and print partners. The brand began as a personal blog before evolving into a full homeware and textiles business.

    The brand is recognisable for its hand-drawn illustrative style, which draws on nature, flora and fauna, and a slightly naive graphic sensibility that reads as warm rather than twee. Designs cross generations easily, working in children's rooms as comfortably as in adult kitchens and living rooms.

    The range covers textiles (tea towels, cushions, tablecloths), ceramics (mugs, plates, vases), wall art (posters, prints, art cards), and occasional furniture and lifestyle pieces. Each season introduces new patterns while retaining a core set of signature designs that have remained in production for years.

    Fine Little Day printed tea towels are machine-washable at 40 degrees on a standard cotton cycle, with the printed designs retaining their colour across years of washing. The longer-lasting approach is a colder 30-degree wash with occasional warmer washes for stains, which extends the visible life of the printed areas.

      To mark the birthday of the late great British designer Robin Day, we’re looking to the Heal’s archive to rediscover the award winning storage unit that helped launch his name. A man of many talents, Day began his career in the 1940s as a teacher at Beckenham School of Art where he first met fellow fan of modernist furniture Clive Latimer. It wasn’t, however, until 1948 that the pair would produce the piece that would gain them international acclaim. The 675 Chair Designed amidst a post war climate of rationing, Day and Latimer’s storage system was built from affordable yet robust plywood and supported by bent, tubular legs made from recycled aluminium. The result was a contemporary piece of furniture very much in keeping with the bright new mid-century style that was beginning to emerge from the doldrums of wartime austerity. Originally designed for Heal’s, the multifunctional storage unit was entered into the ‘International Low-Cost Furniture Competition’ at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York taking first place in the storage section. An international platform on which to showcase Day’s potential, the event acted as a springboard for the designer’s career. Yet few could have predicted the impact he would have, producing some of the most ubiquitous and iconic pieces of the 20th Century.
