Costa Nova makes robust, everyday stoneware in northern Portugal, using clay from its own mines and reactive glazes fired at high temperatures for strength. The collections take their cues from the Atlantic coast, with muted blues, stone greys and soft whites designed to mix freely across the table.

    Costa Nova's stoneware is made from fine-grain Portuguese clay, fired at over 1200°C so the body fully vitrifies. That process makes it chip-resistant, non-porous and safe for dishwashers, microwaves and ovens.

    Stoneware is heavier and more opaque than porcelain, with a softer, more tactile finish. Costa Nova leans into that character, using reactive glazes that vary subtly piece to piece, closer to craft pottery than to formal tableware.

    The palettes are built to layer: Lagoa, Nova and Friso sit easily alongside one another, and the neutrals combine well with existing white or cream dinnerware. Mixing two colourways across plates and bowls gives a relaxed, continental table.

    The stoneware is durable enough for garden and patio use, though it should be brought in after service rather than left out in frost. The glazes resist fading in sunlight, which keeps summer tables looking sharp season after season.
