Accent Chairs

Accent chairs are the punctuation of a living room, a single piece that brings colour, texture or sculptural shape without disrupting the main sofa. The collection covers everything from hand-tufted buttoned wing chairs to rounded velvet tubs and caned occasionals, in palettes chosen to sit well alongside softer neutrals.

An accent chair is a statement occasional seat, placed as a counterpoint to a larger sofa. The brief is to add texture, colour or shape, a boucle tub, a velvet wing, a caned armchair, without crowding the main seating arrangement.

One or two is typically enough in a living room: a single sculptural piece works beside a sofa, a pair flanks a fireplace or window. Any more risks competing with the sofa for attention, which dilutes the effect.

Look for a seat width of at least 55-65cm for comfort, and compare the chair's height to the arm of the sofa, close in line feels intentional, noticeably shorter or taller reads as mismatched. The footprint matters most in smaller rooms.

Velvet, boucle and textured weaves all perform well on accent chairs because they show colour and structure at close range. For heavier daily use, consider a performance weave; for display, the softer piles feel more luxurious.
