[ Product Story ]

Print of an artwork by French abstract artist Robert Delaunay.

Robert Delaunay often divided his canvases into equal segments, distributing complementary and non-complementary colours amongst a succession of geometric forms. This process was based on the law of simultaneous contrast, developed by French chemist Michel Eugène Chevreul who stated that two colours in close proximity will take on the hue of the complement of the adjacent colour. Delaunay applied this theory when producing ‘Joie de Vivre’, positioning hues of red and orange against greens and yellows which appears to make the surface of the canvas vibrate.

Glazing: To protect our prints from light damage and bleaching, we present them behind a layer of cast acrylic. A high quality material, it offers many benefits: including 92% optical clarity and 90% UV protection. What is more, as it is shatter-resistant, it is much safer than glass in your home or workplace.

Media: Fine art giclée print. Matt 250gsm conservation digital paper. A very versatile high quality paper made in Germany from acid and chlorine free wood pulp. The paper is manufactured on a Fourdrinier Machine, a process first perfected by and patented by the Fourdrinier brothers in 1803.

Hanging: Our bespoke hand-made frames arrive complete with D-rings and picture cord or strap hangers for larger items, attached. We also include a hanging kit with every framed order, which contains a wall plug and matching screw, and an instruction manual, so that you can decorate your walls the moment your prints arrive.

  • Before cleaning, remove the framed art from the wall and place on a flat and stable surface.
  • The wooden frame can be gently cleaned or dusted with a soft cloth or brush – never use a wet or damp cloth to wipe wax stained frames.
  • To clean acrylic glazing, wipe very gently using only a clean, damp and non-abrasive cloth. Use either water or a mild acrylic cleaner and apply the fluid on the cloth rather than the glazing itself. Never spray the cleaning product directly onto the artwork.
  • To ensure your artwork remains as good as new, we would recommend that you do not hang it near a heat source such as a radiator or boiler. Excessive heat or excessive cold will damage both the frame and artwork.
  • We would also discourage you from hanging the print in a bathroom where evaporation and condensation may ruin the print and frame.
  • We use high quality, museum-standard acrylic glazing on all our frames because it is more robust and shatter resistant than glass. It also preserves your artwork, offering 92% clarity and 90% UV protection, keeping your print protected for many years to come. However, we suggest you hang your art in a place that won’t reflect too much light.
