Heal’s Exclusive
Owl Cabinet
This season sees Heal’s relaunch one of its iconic designs: the Owl Cabinet. Produced in a strictly limited run, it offers a rare opportunity to own a defining piece of British design heritage. Memorably known as the Owl Cabinet because of its distinctive large roundels, the cabinet was created in 1905 by Sir Ambrose Heal, a pioneering figure in British furniture design and great-grandson of Heal’s founder, John Harris Heal. It marked a considered move into Arts and Crafts design and remained in production from 1906 to 1927.
For AW26, the Owl Cabinet is crafted from solid oak using traditional techniques including tongue-and-groove back panels and dovetail joinery. Its defining feature is the innovative heart-shaped recessed handles, seamlessly integrated into the surface to create a clean, uninterrupted silhouette. A signature Heal’s motif, they became widely adopted in later collections, cementing the cabinet’s lasting influence.
Designed for modern living, the Owl Cabinet is equally suited as a drinks cabinet, additional pantry storage or bedroom furniture. Its versatility reflects Sir Ambrose Heal’s vision of creating purposeful, enduring pieces designed to be lived with, a philosophy that continues to shape Heal’s today.
“Every detail of the cabinet speaks to exceptional craftsmanship - from its timber construction and traditional joinery to the innovative recessed handles that helped define a new visual language for Heal’s. It is a piece that feels just as relevant in today’s homes, and that enduring versatility is exactly why Sir Ambrose Heal’s philosophy still resonates so strongly with us.”
