Bed & Sofa Throws

A well-chosen throw brings a sofa or bed from 'finished' to 'lived-in', adding colour, texture and the signal that the room is there to be used. Our collection spans Scottish wool blankets, chunky bouclé throws and lightweight linen wraps, each sized for how it falls across the arm of a sofa or the foot of a bed.

A three-seater sofa suits a throw of around 130 by 180cm, large enough to spread across the seat or drape over the arm without looking dwarfed. For larger sofas, a 150 by 200cm throw gives a more generous drape, and anything smaller than 130 by 150cm reads as a lap blanket rather than a finishing layer.

Folding the throw in thirds and draping diagonally across one arm gives the most considered look, while a looser, gathered drop at the corner reads more casually. Layering two throws of contrasting textures, such as a wool blanket under a linen waffle, creates the rumpled, layered feel the best living rooms have.

Scottish lambswool and pure merino throws hold warmth at only 300 to 500gsm, easily taking the chill off a cool evening without the bulk of a duvet. For colder rooms or open fires with breeze, a heavyweight wool blanket at 800gsm and above gives genuine winter warmth and lasts generations if stored with cedar.

Most pure wool throws should be dry-cleaned or gently hand-washed in wool-specific detergent at 30 degrees, laid flat to dry rather than hung. Shaking the throw outdoors weekly refreshes the pile between cleans, and storing in a breathable cotton bag during summer prevents moths without trapping humidity.
