Tailor Loose Cover Sofa

The Tailor Loose Cover sofa celebrates Britain's tailoring tradition – a UK-made corner sofa with deep, feather-filled back cushions and fibre seat cushions, finished in any of Heal's sumptuous fabrics with a removable, washable loose cover. Designed for clients who want both proper craft construction and the practicality of a cover that comes off.

Removable, washable covers extend the practical life of a sofa by years. Spills can be lifted and washed properly rather than spot-cleaned forever; covers can be replaced as fabrics age or your scheme changes; the underlying frame and cushions stay in the same condition decade after decade. It's the most upgradeable form of upholstery.

The frame is hardwood (FSC-certified), built and upholstered in the UK. The base structure uses traditional sprung construction; the back cushions are feather-filled (so they need plumping but reward it with comfort); the seat cushions are fibre for shape retention. The loose cover is hand-tailored to fit, drawing on British tailoring techniques.

Yes – any of Heal's sumptuous fabric range can be specified. The interior design team can also help with bespoke fabrics outside the standard range, with extended lead times. Fabric choice substantially affects the read of the sofa: a heavy linen reads relaxed-British, a fine wool reads more formal, a velvet reads dressy.

Most Heal's loose covers are dry-clean-recommended; some are machine-washable on a 30-degree wool cycle. The product page specifies which applies. Always wash all covers together (not just the marked one) so they age uniformly. Replace zip-on covers when ageing has gone too far rather than letting one section drag the look down.
