Scented Candles

Our scented candle collection draws on the perfumers and chandleries we've stocked for years, from hand-poured British makers to European fragrance houses. Each candle is blended with natural waxes and botanical oils, chosen for the way the scent unfolds over an evening rather than the spike of a first burst.

The first burn sets the pattern: let the wax melt to the full diameter of the vessel before extinguishing, or the candle will tunnel and waste half its wax. Trim the wick to roughly 5mm before each subsequent lighting and aim for burn sessions of two to three hours rather than marathon evenings.

Woody, spiced scents such as tobacco, amber and cedarwood anchor a living room or hallway beautifully, adding warmth to hard surfaces. Fresher florals, herbs and citrus notes suit bedrooms and bathrooms, where the lighter palette complements the function. Dining rooms reward neutrality: a whisper of fig or soft vetiver that doesn't fight your food.

Scented candles work well in bedrooms when paired with lighter fragrance profiles, lit at least an hour before bed, and extinguished before sleep. Look for bases of lavender, jasmine, or bergamot rather than heavy smoke-and-leather blends, which can feel dense in a small enclosed space.

Hand-poured wax, natural fragrance oil concentrations of 8 to 12 per cent, and cotton wicks account for most of the cost. Cheaper candles use synthetic fragrance at lower concentrations and paraffin wax, which burns hotter and faster, so the full journey from lighting to last drop is often half the hours of a crafted equivalent.
