Louis De Poortere is a Belgian rugmaker founded in 1929, producing flatweaves and chenilles on Jacquard looms at its Mouscron mill. The collections sit between traditional motif and contemporary wash, with overdyed rugs and abstract patterns that take historical references, Mad Men, Fading World, Antiquarian, and soften them for modern rooms.

    The rugs are woven on Jacquard looms at the Mouscron mill in Belgium, using a chenille yarn that gives the flatweaves their velvety surface. The brand's signature is in the overdye, patterns are hand-treated after weaving to soften colour and add depth.

    The chenille and cotton-blend flatweaves are hard-wearing enough for living rooms, hallways and dining spaces, and the reverse side is reinforced for longevity. For very heavy footfall, pair with a quality rug pad to prevent slipping and wear.

    The overdye process is designed to look slightly faded from day one, so the rug reads as lived-in rather than brand new. That character deepens with sunlight and use, which is part of the intended design rather than a flaw.

    Most of the range can be professionally dry-cleaned; avoid domestic steam cleaning, which can disturb the overdye. Spot-clean immediately with a dry cloth, and consult a rug specialist for larger spills.
