Vertical storage beats horizontal in tight spaces, so tall bookcases and slim cabinets use the wall without eating floor area. Pieces with lifted legs show more floor, which makes the room feel larger. A single substantial cabinet usually looks calmer than several small bits of furniture.

Look for media cabinets with ventilation grilles and pre-cut cable exits at the back, which make routing simple and keep cables out of sight. Grouping all equipment on one shelf, with a single power strip tucked inside, simplifies everything. Velcro ties stop loose cables tangling behind the unit.

Sideboards between 75 and 85cm tall sit comfortably below standard sightlines, so they don't block the view across a seated room. Taller cabinets work better against feature walls or in rooms with high ceilings. Match the height roughly to the back of the sofa for a balanced composition.

Adjacent rooms look best when storage shares a material family rather than matching exactly, for example oak in one room and walnut in the next. Identical pieces in both spaces can read as showroom rather than home. Varying the finish stops the overall look feeling too uniform.
