Jute & Sisal Rugs

Jute and sisal rugs bring natural, hard-wearing texture into a room without the commitment of a patterned wool rug. The collection covers chunky boucle jute, fine herringbone sisal and flat-woven blends, all from sustainable plant-fibre sources and constructed to handle hallway, living and dining traffic with minimal care.

Jute is softer and more textured, with a warmer tone, it reads as a rustic, lived-in rug. Sisal is harder and more structured, with a tighter weave that takes heavy foot traffic better. Both are plant-fibre rugs, but their character and durability differ considerably.

Jute is comfortable enough for a living room where feet are often bare, with a softer hand than sisal. Sisal works better under a dining table or in a hallway, where hard wear is the priority and softness less critical.

Jute sheds lightly for the first few weeks, a fine fibre dust that vacuums up easily. Sisal is denser and sheds less but can show signs of surface wear in very high-traffic areas. Rotating the rug every six months evens out both.

Spot-clean with a dry cloth immediately, jute and sisal do not tolerate heavy wetness, which can distort the weave and cause mildew. For bigger spills or periodic refresh, a specialist natural-fibre cleaner is a better choice than domestic steam cleaning.
