Divan Beds

Divan beds pair a sprung or solid base with a mattress to build an integrated sleep system, taller and warmer than a slatted frame. Our collection spans pocket-sprung divans with drawer storage, platform-top designs for firmer support, and ottoman lift-up bases, each made in the UK and finished in fabrics chosen to sit under a headboard of your choice.

A divan has a solid, upholstered base that sits directly under the mattress, often including storage drawers or a lift-up compartment. A bed frame has a slatted or sprung platform inside a wooden or metal frame, with open space underneath. Divans suit sleepers who want maximum storage and a warmer, more enclosed feel; frames suit rooms where airflow and visible legs help the space breathe.

Divan bases are sold separately from the headboard, which attaches via two struts bolted into the rear of the base. This means a single divan can be refreshed over the years by swapping the headboard rather than replacing the whole piece. Most upholstered headboards fit a standard divan strut pattern, so mixing brands is straightforward.

A pocket-sprung divan base adds a second layer of give beneath the mattress, which can suit sleepers who find a slatted frame too firm underfoot. The tradeoff is less airflow beneath the mattress, so look for a divan with ventilation panels or turn the mattress regularly to avoid moisture buildup, particularly in colder UK bedrooms.

A standard 4-drawer divan offers roughly 250 litres of storage across the four drawers, enough for a full bedding set plus seasonal clothes. Ottoman bases lift the entire mattress on gas struts and give 400 to 500 litres in a single compartment, making them the storage leader when the space under the bed is the only available option.
