Sofas

Our luxury sofas sit at the heart of the Heal's collection, with every frame built on principles of craftsmanship, comfort and considered design. Choose from modular corner arrangements, classic three-seaters, compact two-seaters and statement chaise longues, in fabric, velvet or leather.

Start with the space, not the sofa. Measure the room, mark out the footprint with masking tape, and leave clear walkways around the piece. From there, consider how you use the room – a family-first space calls for a deep, hard-wearing fabric, while a formal sitting room suits a tailored two-seater with a firmer seat. The sofa should anchor the room without overwhelming it.

Heavy-weave wool and performance linens handle daily life best, shrugging off spills and shedding crumbs without flattening. Leather also ages beautifully with use, developing a patina that only improves year on year. Velvet and delicate cottons are better suited to formal rooms or households without young children and pets. Loose covers in any fabric extend the life of the piece by allowing rotation and cleaning.

A corner sofa features two connected seating sections that form an L-shape, making it ideal for maximising seating in larger living spaces. A chaise sofa combines a standard sofa with an extended seat at one end, offering a comfortable place to stretch out while taking up less space than a full corner design. A modular sofa is made up of individual sections that can be arranged, expanded or reconfigured to suit your room, making it a flexible choice for changing layouts and lifestyles.

A well-made sofa with a hardwood frame, sprung base and quality upholstery should last 15 to 20 years with care. Regular plumping, rotation of cushions and professional cleaning every few years all extend its life. Re-upholstering is an option when the fabric wears but the frame remains sound, which is why we invest in pieces built to be restored rather than replaced.
