Bedspreads and Throws

A bedspread or throw is the layer that finishes a bed and the texture that warms a sofa. Our luxury collection covers wool, cashmere, mohair and cotton designs in plain weaves, subtle stripes and considered colour blocks – heavy enough to drape properly, soft enough to use, in palettes built for considered modern homes.

A bedspread covers the whole bed (mattress and headboard) and reaches the floor on three sides – a substantial textile that replaces or layers over the duvet. A throw is smaller, designed to drape across the foot of the bed or the back of a sofa for warmth and texture rather than full coverage.

Wool is the all-rounder – warm in winter, breathable in summer, naturally dirt-resistant. Mohair and cashmere are softer but more delicate and need more careful washing. Cotton is the easiest to launder but doesn't have the warmth or drape of wool. For a sofa throw used daily, a wool blend in a mid-weight (around 350gsm) sits in the practical sweet spot.

Around 130x180cm covers a three-seater diagonally with comfortable drape. For a corner sofa, scale up to 150x200cm or layer two smaller throws. The throw should look intentional rather than insufficient; a throw that's too small to actually use reads as decoration only.

Most quality wool throws are dry-clean recommended; some are machine-washable on a wool cycle at 30 degrees. Always check the care label. Reshape while damp and air-dry rather than tumble-drying, which can shrink and felt the fibres. A throw used daily needs cleaning every 6-12 months; one used decoratively only every couple of years.
