Bedroom

We spend roughly a third of our lives in the bedroom, so the furniture in it matters. Our luxury bedroom collection brings together Heal's-exclusive ranges (Brunel, Pickwick, Mistral, Hudson) alongside designer beds, wardrobes, chests of drawers and bedside tables – contemporary and classic options for both traditional and modern interiors.

Start with the bed. Its size dictates the rest of the room – a king bed on a small wall closes the space; a double on a wide wall leaves room for a chest and bedside tables. Choose the mattress next, then the bed frame, then bedside furniture. Wardrobes are usually the last decision, often dictated by what fits.

Bedside tables should sit between hip and shoulder height when you're in bed – that's typically 55-70cm tall. A chest of drawers wants to leave at least 80cm of clear walking space in front of it for drawer access. Wardrobes should leave 60cm of door swing clearance unless they slide.

Matching suites can read showroom-perfect but flat. Mixing one statement piece (a bed, a wardrobe, a dressing table) with quieter co-ordinating pieces tends to feel more lived-in. Keeping the timber tone consistent across the room ties everything together without forcing the suite look.

Reduce the count of furniture pieces rather than the size of each one – four small things often look busier than two larger pieces. A muted palette across walls, bedlinen and timber finishes also reads as calmer than a high-contrast scheme. Adequate storage matters most: clutter on surfaces undoes everything else.
