A three-seater sofa usually measures between 195 and 230cm in width, with most designs landing around 210cm. Compact three-seaters start closer to 190cm for smaller living rooms, while grander designs with fuller arms push towards 240cm. Always measure the space, the doorway, and any stairwell turns before ordering.

A true three-seater needs 180cm of seating width between the arms, which most 210cm-wide sofas offer once the arm widths are subtracted. Shorter three-seaters at 190cm can feel tight for three adults and work better as a generous two-seater. Check the seat-cushion dimensions, not just the overall width, when planning capacity.

A standard 90 to 95cm seat depth suits upright sitting and conversation, while deeper 100 to 110cm designs invite lounging and are the format of choice for film-watching rooms. Pair a deeper sofa with larger scatter cushions so shorter sitters can still rest against the back without sliding down.

A 210cm three-seater works in rooms as small as 3.5m by 4m, provided the sofa sits along the longest wall and leaves a 60cm walkway at the front. In tighter spaces, a compact two-seater paired with an armchair often delivers more usable seating than a crammed three-seater that blocks circulation.
