Unlike many of his contemporaries, Prouvé did not study architecture or design and instead trained as metal worker before opening his own workshop in Nancy in 1924. In the following years he created numerous furniture designs, and in 1947 Prouvé established his own factory with many of his pieces now produced exclusively by Vitra.

Originally designed with weight distribution in mind, the Standard Chair features tubular steel front legs and voluminous hollow back legs to allow for the upper body weight to be transferred to the floor. A man of many talents, Jean Prouvé brought his combined skills as an architect, engineer and industrial designer to the Standard Chair.
First produced in 1934, the frame gets its unique shape from a clever weight distribution design, which is based on the understanding that the back legs of a chair take most of the upper body weight of the user.
Contrasting the thin tubular legs at the front of the design with the angular back, the frame is finished in a soft powder coating in a choice of contemporary shades.
To complete this classic modernist chair, two wooden moulded sheets form the curved backrest and flat seat simply bolting onto the steel frame to add to the Sim’s industrial feel.
00https://www.heals.com/media/catalog/product/_/6/_6_4_646277_1.jpgadd-to-cartbrand:Vitradesigner:Jean Prouvé heals_colour:Redmaterial_type:Plasticprice:755.000000range:ProuveVitraJean Prouvé RedPlastic755.000000ProuveNoPlasticRedOak815NoNoNoJean ProuvéSpecialist420490
