Product Story

Beautiful coppiced hazel, crafted into a modern shelving system

Handmade in London exclusively for Heal's, its drawers have been made from ten carefully selected beautiful British hardwoods: Oak, Ash, Elm, Chestnut, London Plane, Sycamore, Cherry, Walnut, Brown Oak and Beech.

Each species of timber – all of which are locally grown in Britain from sustainable sources - have been handpicked to provide rich contrasting colours, stunning swirls and exotic grain patterns.

Visible dovetail joints on the drawers reveal a high level of attention to detail and unrivalled craftsmanship, while the frame is made by hand from coppiced hazel, giving each beam delicate, irregular shaping that makes each piece unique.

Sebastian Cox

At the heart of his practice is a focus on developing objects that use local materials and traditional techniques while incorporating a contemporary aesthetic that appeals to modern homes. For his Oak and Hazel range, Sebastian relied solely on traditionally coppiced hazel that has been grown on his family farm in Kent and solid oak sourced from sustainable British woodlands.
