Because each piece is hand-made the shape of each is slightly different as is the finish on the glaze. I was concerned that the colour would vary also as it seems to in some of the photos online. However all the pieces I received were a consistent shade of slightly grey off-white. I guess it's possible that the colour might vary more if items are bought at different times. This is solid, attractive earthenware that shows off food very nicely and is more interesting than a set which matches completely. I love it.
