A series made to honour the genius and transformative power of music icon David Bowie. Narielwalla recollects his first impressions of Bowie from the 70s broadcasted in India during the 90s.
Hormazd Narielwalla is the second solo artist to take residency The Mansard Gallery. Titled ‘Pattern Symphony’, the exhibition comprises of Narielwalla’s distinct elegant abstract collages, and also features work from his most recent homage to David Bowie. By applying vintage tailoring patters to collaged forms of handmade papers, Narielwalla’s bold compositions use positive and negative space to create a rhythmic sense of movement, depicting the fluidity of the human form.
Narielwalla will also showcase original works from his ‘Diamond Doll’ series, which celebrates the iconic figure of David Bowie through repeated motifs of the ‘Ziggy Stardust’ persona. Conceived as a sculptural object in three parts, the book explores Bowie’s transformative power and ability to reinvent himself, and the ways in which his different identifies were projected through dress, make-up and performance.
Made on tailoring patterns involving the use of giclee prints.
Intense under and over layer of various paper decorations and adornment to complete the collage.
