Known as ‘the golden girl’ of the Heal’s Fabrics designers, Barbara Brown was a graduate of the Royal College of Art and produced many fabric designs. Describing her inspiration as “rather theoretical and mathematical”, Brown explained that her award-winning fabrics “were based on machines and architecture”. Creating optical illusions she used mathematical formulae to suggest motion.
