{"id":24774,"date":"2020-03-05T09:56:00","date_gmt":"2020-03-05T09:56:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.heals.com\/blog\/?p=24774"},"modified":"2020-03-05T11:24:11","modified_gmt":"2020-03-05T11:24:11","slug":"meet-designer-says-who","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.heals.com\/blog\/meet-designer-says-who\/","title":{"rendered":"Meet the Designer: Says Who"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the new starring pieces for\nSS20 is the Lars bedroom collection, designed by Says Who exclusively for Heal\u2019s.\nCharacterising contemporary minimalist design with its elegant joinery, Lars brings\na cool and timeless appeal to the new season collection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We sat down with Kasper Meldgaardm, one half of Says Who, to discover more about the collection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Can you give us a brief history about Says Who?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nikolaj and I grew up\ntogether in north Denmark, so we\u2019re lifelong friends as well as business\npartners. We have always been great admirers of Heal\u2019s, so it\u2019s a real honour\nto be part of the new collection. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This collaboration is\nsomething we\u2019re really proud of. We wanted to pay homage to Heal\u2019s by creating\nfurniture that echoed its heritage, whilst bringing traditional craftsmanship\nto a modern audience. The painted cabinets offer a contemporary feel whilst the\nsuper slim line finish and neat detailing showcases the craft. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our aim was to create a range of functional storage, whilst giving customers the experience of high-quality design, which I think represents the ethos of Heal\u2019s. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Where do you find inspiration when designing new products? <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We\u2019re always looking at what other designers are creating to see the new ways furniture is being produced, so that we can carve a new path and push our own boundaries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Design fairs are great for exploring the emerging trends and we travel round the world a lot as part of our research, but ideas might also be sparked when I\u2019m least expecting it \u2013 it\u2019s interesting to think about how much my sub-conscious absorbs and is constantly working away! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"534\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.heals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Says-Who-Lars-Bedroom-Collection-2-1024x534.jpg\" alt=\"Says Who's Lars Bedroom Collection lifestyle shot\" class=\"wp-image-24779\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.heals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Says-Who-Lars-Bedroom-Collection-2-1024x534.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.heals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Says-Who-Lars-Bedroom-Collection-2-300x156.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.heals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Says-Who-Lars-Bedroom-Collection-2-768x400.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.heals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Says-Who-Lars-Bedroom-Collection-2-1536x800.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.heals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Says-Who-Lars-Bedroom-Collection-2-2048x1067.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What were your processes behind designing the new Lars collection for Heal\u2019s? <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We have nine people in our\nteam, and whenever we start a new project we\u2019ll work together, sketching out\ndifferent ideas until our concepts are crystalized. These will then be created\ndigitally, at which point we would share our ideas with Heal\u2019s and incorporate\nthe team\u2019s feedback into our designs until we have finalised a product that\neveryone admires. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each season comes round\nreally quickly, so we rely a lot on technology to effectively collaborate. A\nlot of production has actually moved out of Denmark over the last decade, so\nit\u2019s important for us to understand how our designs will be produced and what\naspects of the engineering process are possible. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More recent programmes and tools, such as 3D printing and virtual reality, have enabled us to experience designs at a very early stage of the process. This means we\u2019re able to quickly identify which aspects we want to refine or modify, and work collaboratively with customers to realise their brief. We\u2019re spending much more time using screens and interacting with a one dimensional space, so I think that we crave a tactile experience to make us feel more connected with our surrounding
