{"id":196,"date":"2015-05-22T10:55:45","date_gmt":"2015-05-22T09:55:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/heals.uat.redboxcloud.com\/blog\/?p=196"},"modified":"2017-10-09T17:19:10","modified_gmt":"2017-10-09T16:19:10","slug":"happy-birthday-marcel-breuer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.heals.com\/blog\/happy-birthday-marcel-breuer\/","title":{"rendered":"Happy Birthday Marcel Breuer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/heals.uat.redboxcloud.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/marcelbreuer.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-197\" src=\"http:\/\/heals.uat.redboxcloud.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/marcelbreuer.jpg\" alt=\"Marcel Breuer Long Chair\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.heals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/marcelbreuer.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.heals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/marcelbreuer-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s hard to believe that, were he still alive today, visionary designer Marcel Breuer would be celebrating his 123<sup>rd<\/sup> Birthday.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Hungary in 1902, he went on to become a professor at the infamous <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Bahaus school of design<\/span> in Germany and throughout this period produced a number of iconic designs such as his infamous tubular steel \u2018Wassily\u2019 and \u2018Model B32\u2019 Chairs.<\/p>\n<p>Not only did such pieces have a major influence on Heal\u2019s own collections, most notably the \u2018Economy with a Difference\u2019 range launched in 1933, but were also stocked within the showrooms of <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><a style=\"color: #ff6600;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.heals.com\/stores\/tottenham-court-road.html\">Tottenham Court Road<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Working for modern British furniture makers Isokon, whose creative director just happened to be former head of the Bauhaus Walter Gropius, in 1935 Breuer produced his stunning \u2018Long Chair\u2019 with Heal\u2019s one of the first stores in the world to stock this classic design.<\/p>\n<p>As well as his instinctive aptitude for furniture, at the peak of 20<sup>th<\/sup> century Modernism following the Second World War Breuer was one of the worlds most influential and in-demand architects.<\/p>\n<p>Designing up until his passing in 1981, buildings include the Unesco Headquarters in Paris (1958) and the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York (1966), both now considered masterpieces of the modern era.<\/p>\n<p>So the next time you sit back in a contemporary styled tubular chair, take a moment to raise your glass to Mr. Breuer, a true pioneer of the modern home.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/heals.uat.redboxcloud.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/marcelbreuer1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-198\" src=\"http:\/\/heals.uat.redboxcloud.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/marcelbreuer1.jpg\" alt=\"Marcel Breuer Bauhaus Designer\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.heals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/marcelbreuer1.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.heals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/marcelbreuer1-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s hard to believe that, were he still alive today, visionary designer Marcel Breuer would be celebrating his 123rd Birthday.
